Please be sure to work on any tricky parts that we have visited during our in-school lessons. Remember to work through these parts in small pieces at a slow tempo. Practice a little bit every day leading up to the concert!
This week would be an excellent time for students to share what they have been learning with their friends and families!
I will be sending home letters with details regarding our Winter Concert after our Thanksgiving Break! First Year Band Students - Practice the parts of Jingle Bells that you know. Try to find patterns in the music. Try to play the whole song!
Second Year Band Students - Please practice all of your parts (including counting your rests!) If you need help, try listening to the recordings that I posted on our "What's New?" page. First year students:
Please keep practicing our notes. If you need help remembering the notes, please look at pages 6 and 8 in our Accent on Achievement books. Flutes - Bb, C, D, Eb, and F. Transitioning to Bb and C is going to take an effective effort but it will get easier with practice! Work on the beginning of Jingle Bells until measure 9. Try your best and if you want to practice more of Jingle Bells, please do! Clarinets - C, D, E, F, G, and A. Be careful when playing G to C (no fingers covering holes to all your fingers covering the holes in your left hand). Work on the beginning of Jingle Bells until measure 9. Try your best and if you want to practice more of Jingle Bells, please do! Saxophones - G, A, B, C, and D. Practice all of your notes slowly. Remember that D uses our octave key (with our left thumb). Work on the beginning of Jingle Bells until measure 9. Try your best and if you want to practice more of Jingle Bells, please do! Trumpets - C, D, E, F, and G. Practice all of your notes slowly. Remember to buzz your lips faster for our higher sounding notes (G) and buzz slowly for our lower notes (C). The notes on the trumpet will be easier to play if we use a lot of air! Work on the beginning of Jingle Bells as well as measure 13 (that's where we have the melody!). Try your best and if you want to practice more of Jingle Bells, please do! Trombones - Bb, C, D, Eb, and F. Practice moving your slides from Bb (1st position) to C (6th position). Remember to buzz your lips faster for our higher sounding notes (F) and buzz slowly for our lower sounding notes (Bb). The notes on the trombone will be easier to play if we use a lot of air! Work on the beginning of Jingle Bells until measure 9. Try your best and if you want to practice more of Jingle Bells, please do! Percussion - Bb, C, D, Eb, and F Practice all of Jingle Bells on your bell kits! Don't forget to practice both the snare drum part AND the bass drum part for Jingle Bells. Helpful tip: highlight the different parts on your page (e.g snare drum highlighted in blue and the bass drum highlighted in green). You can choose any color that you'd like! Don't forget to log your practice minutes each week! Second Year Students: Keep practicing your parts! The Little Drummer Boy: Count your rests! Circle them or highlight! Know your part and how it fits in with the other instruments. Celebrating Chanukah: Practice the beginning! It is much slower than measure 20. Listen to the recordings that I posted on the "What's New?" page. Siberian Sleighride: Listen to the recording of the song to hear how your parts fit in with the main melody. First year students:
Please keep practicing our notes that we have been learning on pages 6, 7, and 8 of our Accent on Achievement books. Flutes and Trombones - Bb, C, D, Eb, and F Clarinets and Trumpets - C, D, E, F, and G (clarinets will also learn A) Saxophones - G, A, B, C, and D Percussion Bell Kit - Bb, C, D, Eb, and F Please keep working on Jingle Bells! Our Winter concert is approaching fast! Second year students: I added links to the "What's New?" page that will allow you to listen to each piece that we are playing for our Winter concert. Please listen and follow along in your music. The more we listen to the music and become familiar with how it sounds, the easier it will be for us to rehearse our parts together in rehearsal. Remember to fill out your practice logs and submit them to me! Hello Band! I am going to be sending home a practice log reminder with directions on how to fill out our practice logs on the website and in the back of the books. With only roughly 10 weeks until our Winter concert, we must be accountable for our weekly practice minutes!
